NWR supports efforts to keep Okahandja clean Windhoek, 30 November 2014 – Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) along with its partners joined hands to do a clean up campaign in the Garden Town of Okahandja for the benefit of the environment on 29 November 2014. Through the assistance of its partners, NWR focused on cleaning the entrance of Okahandja and the area around the dumpsite. “Okahandja’s environment is truly stimulating, it is endowed with some of Namibia’s major spectacular and fascinating assets. These are Gross Barmen and Von Bach Recreation areas. That is why our cleaning campaign carried the theme “a true healthy environment that is stimulating”. We need to restore and maintain the healthy environment of Okahandja. We need to get rid of litter and waste that risk polluting and turning our town into an eyesore due to wind-blown litter,” said Zelna Hengari, NWR Managing Director. Ms. Hengari further continued by saying, “I have to admit that many towns and cities are challenged in keeping their environment clean, due to various factors. These include, low level of awareness on waste management, limited financial resources and inadequate waste management infrastructure. This is why NWR and its partners saw the need to conduct this clean up campaign”. Of recent, Okahandja has witnessed an increase in business activities, like the opening of shopping malls and many others industries. Certainly, this will result in more waste being generated. This is a great concern not only to the local authorities, but also a concern to so many Namibians that are passionate about their environment, including us at NWR. Fransiska Nghitila, NWR’s Environmental and Compliance Specialist said, “Through this campaign, we aimed to bring the concept of educating the community on keeping the environment clean by promoting a litter-free environment. Protecting the environment is the responsibility of all of us and every person in the community. NWR is in the process of developing a waste management system that will become an integral part of our business”. NWR would like to say thank you to Coca Cola, Hartlief, Keurwyne, Sea Pride, Neu-Onis (PTY) LTD, EMED Rescue 24 (Prosperity Health), Out of Africa Art Gallery, Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Environmental Investment Fund and the Okahandja Municipality for partnering with us on this campaign.
