NYEPI Day / The Day of Silence Save the earth by having silence Day for 24 Hours in Bali March 31st, 2014 Start at 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. on the next day Nyepi is known as the Day of Silence, is an important religious event in Balinese Hindu culture and marks the celebration of the New Year in the Hindu Lunar calendar (New Year Caka 1936) Pengrupukan is The day before Nyepi or Eve Nyepi The darkest night of the new moon. During these solemn, powerful hours, priests throughout Bali will perform a Tawur agung, praying and ritually sacrificing a variety of animals to appease the demons and honor the gods is an attempt to harmonize the conflicting universal powers of good and evil. A spectacular parades of Ogoh-ogoh (giant monster dolls) accompanied by gongs or gamelan will be carried surrounding the village. During the Nyepi Day, the following rules of 4 restriction called Catur Brata Penyepian will be implemented 1. AMATI LELUNGAN / NO TRAVELING • Check-in and check-out will not be possible on Nyepi day. • Ngurah Rai International Airport will be closed • Nobody is allowed in the streets 2. AMATI GENI / NO FIRE OR LIGHTS • The lights will be dimmed inside • There will be no outdoor lighting • The cable TV programs will not available but Movie program is set instead or please call Front Desk “0” for movie request 3. AMATI KARYA / NO WORK OR PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES • No activities are allowed outside in the street 4. AMATI LELANGUAN / NO HAVING FUN/MAKING NOISE • The Hindu Balinese fast during this day, however, the hotels are exceptionally exempt from this rule in order to serve the guests • Trying not to laugh or speak loud even inside the hotels rooms.
