Nasya is of five varieties Navana nasya It refers to the instilling of the drops of medicated oil in the nose. Avapida nasya It refers to the instilling of the juice (extract) of a drug through the nasal passages. Dhamapana nasya / Pradhdmana nasya It refers to the inhalation of fine powder in the nasal passages with the help of a nadi- yantra. Dhumanasya In Dhumanasya medicated fumes are inhaled through the nasal passages and are eliminated through the oral route. Disease or symptoms like cough, asthma, peenus, loss of voice, offensive breath, anemia, premature graying of hairs, ottorrhoea, discharge from eyes, excessive salivation, itching and pain in the eyes, ears and mouth, stiffness in these parts, sleepiness and sluggishness and hiccough. These symptoms or disease are prevented in a person who uses proper Dhumapanam. Dhum may be applied to the ulcers and at that procedure it is called vranadhupnah (fumigation of the wound.) Pratimarshya (Daily Oil Nasya) This type of therapy is administered by dipping the clean little finger in ghee or oil and inserting into each nostril. After inserting the clean finger (dipped in ghee or oil) into the nostril, the nasal passage is lubricated and given a gentle massage. By doing this, the deep nasal tissues are opened up. By doing Pratimarshya on a regular basis, stress can be released to a great extent.
