National Conference: Nigeria’s unity is sacred, untouchable –Tapgun Category: News Published on Sunday, 23 March 2014 05:00 Written by Onimisi Alao, Jos Hits: 40 0 Comments Former Plateau State governor, Chief Fidelis Naanmiap Tapgun, has asserted that Nigeria remaining one is a fixed issue which the National Conference would not attempt to change except to strengthen it. “We are going to discuss and try to effect necessary changes to all subjects under the sun, except the unity of this country because Nigeria’s unity in not negotiable,” Tapgun said yesterday during an interview with journalists in his Jos home. He said after fighting a three-year war to keep the country together, nobody should be talking of splitting it to pieces. “To keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done,” Tapgun said, referring to a slogan coined in the course of the Nigeria-Biafra war to help the re-emergence of one Nigeria from the war. He was emphatic that Nigerians have no real reason to wish for a different country, saying, “We are benefiting immensely for being together. Not everybody fully realizes it, but nobody earnestly wants to go. Nobody. We are so better off together that we should simply remain together.”
