“National Demographic Health Survey puts the life expectancy of Nigerians at 47 years. The least Developed Countries (LDC) average life expectancy age is 57. This means that the life expectancy of Nigeria is 10 years below that of the least developed countries. Also, Nigeria’s life expectancy at birth is lower than that of most countries with either lower or higher human development index (HDI).” But frightening as these statistics might seem, one might begin to question the credibility of these figures. The population of Nigeria is expected to double in less than 3 decades. It has more than doubles in the past 25 years from 91 million to over 170 million. If all these negative growth factors indeed played out to the extent they are been portrayed, then Nigerias population wouldnt be increasing in such a geometric progression. We should be wary about the figures some desperate individuals/organisations fabricate in a frantic effort to drive down their points/selfish agenda
