Netflix has the Daredevil series set to premiere on May 1st, which is the weekend that Marvel Studios premiers The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Its unknown if the May 1st date is simply a placeholder for a May opening or if all 13 Daredevil episodes will officially be released that Friday. Just in case you thought maybe the two would be somehow connected, its learned the Daredevil series will be its own uniquely localized Marvel Story. EW provided a few tidbits of Daredevil where head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb, made mention nobody will be seen flying around in the skies of DD. “Within the Marvel universe there are thousands of heroes of all shapes and sizes, but The Avengers are here to save the universe and Daredevil is here to save the neighborhood, Loeb offered. It’s a very unique look at Hell’s Kitchen in New York, where Matt Murdock grew up and continues to defend it from people who would harm the people that live there. It does take place in the Marvel cinematic universe. It’s all connected. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that we would look up in the sky and see [Iron Man]. It’s just a different part of New York that we have not yet seen in the Marvel movies.” Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight continues with mention Daredevil is not a superhero show. We really wanted to take our cue from [films like] The French Connection, Dog Day Afternoon, Taxi Driver, and make it very, very grounded, very gritty, very real,” DeKnight said. “We always say we would rather lean toward The Wire than what’s considered a classic superhero television show.” Loeb also adds there will be no Thor. “There aren’t going to be people flying through the sky. There are no magic hammers,” Loeb said. Daredevil stars Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil) Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Vincent D’Onofrio (WilsonFisk), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Scott Glenn (Stick), Bob Gunton (Leland Owlsley), Toby Leonard Moore (Wesley), Vondie Curtis Hall (Ben Urich) and Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa Marianna). Synopsis: Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hells Kitchen, New York City.
