Never exactly a hippie, actually unimaginable to me, I traveled - TopicsExpress

Never exactly a hippie, actually unimaginable to me, I traveled America in a van with a friend in September, 1969 from Chicago to Berkeley, California, via Texas. The Haight and Ashberry intersection was filthy with people sleeping on the street and trash everywhere. No girls with flowers in their hair, tho I did look for them. We spent night at Keyes Beach on the ocean, met a young couple who sought refuge from the cold rain in our van and we all slept there until a cop told us to move on. They lived in a big blue school bus propped up on concrete blocks with all the seats removed and they made us pancakes for breakfast. Afterwards we all shook hands and my friend and I turned our van east and headed back to Chicago. If you want to read my other true stories on a lazy Christmas Day, go to my writing site: DifferentSlants Someday, Ill sell my exotic old magazine store and publish another five books. Id leave that request in my stocking hanging by the crackling fireplace except, well, no stocking for the Hanukkah people. We just have to believe.
