Never forget how blessed you are. Dont be negative when you have so much to be positive about. EXTUBATED AT LAST! We have tried not to update on Mackenzies status until we are confident that it wont change however today we could not wait. At 10:10am her breathing tube was removed!! Despite feeling very lousy and dealing with withdrawal and a replaced feeding tube placed into her intestines to help stop the vomiting, Mackenzie made it clear she was done with her breathing tube. The last 3 days the doctors have planned not to do anything with her and let her rest because of withdrawal but she forced their hands and they had to ween her vent each day because of her performance. Today, for the first time in 53 days Mackenzie is breathing on her own! She was put on 2 liters of continuous oxygen and is handling it well thus far. This is the wait and watch period and things could change not only today but in the days and weeks to come. We are praying that our little girl never sees another breathing tube and continues to move forward. Although she is off of the ventilator and this is a big step, she is no where near the end of her journey. Watching your child breathe for the very first time on her own after wondering for so long if she ever would is a feeling that cant be put into words. Today we also heard her faint little cry and it was the most amazing sound. We are truly blessed that our little girl is such a fighter! Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers!
