New Brunswick is the first province in the country to have these machines. Tim The Miramichi Hospital is now one of ten hospitals in New Brunswick that can initiate video consultation directly with a remotely based neurologist thanks to Dr. Gerard Losier and his wife, Judy. The Telestroke system will link emergency department physicians to a neurologist anytime of the day to provide rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients experiencing a stroke. The neurologist can then examine the stroke patient and determine what treatment is necessary. This could include the use of a clot busting drug that can actually reverse the effects of some strokes, dramatically improving patient outcomes.
