New Jersey Storytelling Guild January 4th Workshop Shirley Johnson: “Storytelling with an Historical “I” Shirley Johnson is a long time member of the New Jersey Storytelling Guild, National Association of Black Storytellers and the National Storytelling Network. She is co-founder of Steeped in Stories. Shirley will guide us through the process of telling historical tales from a first person prospective. An added twist will be an historical personality’s observation of current day events. “Sojourner Truth Reflects on First Lady Michelle Obama” and “ ‘Still’ Underground in New Jersey” are works in which Johnson uses this telling style.
