News: Romeo Vows To Make Countrymen Proud If Picked For SEAG-Bound Gilas Team After a failed bid to carry Far Eastern University to the UAAP crown, the league’s MVP Terrence Romeo is setting his sights on making the national team and getting a chance to help the Philippines retain the basketball gold medal in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games. Romeo, recently named to the pool from where members of the Myanmar-bound team will be culled, said he looks forward to vying for a place in the national squad and said he is ready to play even just a limited role if picked by head coach Jong Uichico. “Siyempre, alam ko naman po na deserving kami lahat doon. Kahit ano pong mangyari, kung ano ang makakabuti sa team, okay po ako dun,” said the controversial Far Eastern University star. Uichico is the head coach of the team that will also include Marcus Douthit and Gilas cadets Kevin Alas, Garvo Lanete, Jake Pascual, Ronald Pascual, Matt Ganuelas, and Romeo’s FEU teammate RR Garcia. Also part of the coaching staff, incidentally, are FEU coach Nash Racela and assistant coach Josh Reyes, whom Romeo said will be a big help for him if he clinches a place in the final lineup. “Magpapaturo po ako kila coach Nash at coach Josh, alam po nila gagawin,” said Romeo. The 21-year-old Romeo said it has been his dream to play for the national team aside from suiting up professionally in the PBA. He is also open to becoming part of the Gilas cadet if given a chance. “Bata pa po ako, pangarap ko na makapaglaro dun (national team). Ibibigay ko po lahat ng makakaya ko para maging proud ’yung mga kapwa Pilipino,” said Romeo. “Nasa kanila po ‘yun,” Romeo said, when asked if he wants to be part of the cadet pool. “Kung deserving ako dun, why not?” After winning the UAAP MVP crown, Romeo, who has declared that he will be playing for the Tamaraws next season, is more motivated to help FEU win the league title next year after reaching the semifinal round this year. “’Yun po ang pinaka-goal ko next year. Bago ako umalis ng FEU para maging proud ’yung FEU community sa akin,” said Romeo.
