#Newsupdate Dr Manohar inaugurates roads, school building. KATHUA, August 5:- Highlighting the initiatives of the government to link the unconnected villages with roads to pace up rural economy, Minister of State for Fisheries, Cooperatives, Finance and Planning Dr Manohar Lal Sharma said during the past five years of the present government, the expansion of roads network and bridges remained a priority hence have opened avenue for development in these areas. Dr Sharma was speaking during inauguration ceremony in village Harnota here at Billawar today. During his extensive tour to Billawar Dr Sharma first inaugurated 1.2 km Road link to Harnota completed at the cost of 17.60 lakh funded under state sector. Locals in large numbers turned out during the foundation laying ceremony and thanked the minister for taking up the road work as people of the area were facing hardship especially school children’s and aged locals during rainy season. Thereafter Dr Manohar Lal Sharma visited Barota and inaugurated Additional Class Room Building of Government High School Barota taken up under Rashtriya Madhmik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA). While addressing people at Barota Dr Sharma said the Additional School Building is completed with an estimated cost of Rs 39.90 lakh and will now relieve the school administration and students from space deficiency. He said government has taken landmark initiatives to strengthen educational infrastructure from primary to higher education level. In this connection the efforts to up-grade schools, opening of new colleges and recruitment of teachers were made in all these years, he quoted. He appealed the teachers to involve the students in co-curricular activities besides studies. He said teacher must nurture the talent of the students as they owe this responsibility to make them good citizens of the society. While throwing light on the upcoming projects Dr Shama said an Auditorium of 1000 seating capacity will be constrcuted in Governemnt Degree College Billawar with an estimated cost of 5.50 cr and a Sports Stadium in the tehsil has already been sanctioned. He added that work on lift irrigation schemes of Harnota and Barota are under process, disclosed that the project of Lift Irrigation Scheme will cost 1.35 cr. Sarpanch Barota and other speakers projected the demand of upgradtion of High School to Higher Secondary Level. Other damands by the locals including five handpumps and Lift Irrigation Scheme for Naagri. Dr Sharma directed Dy CEO to speed up the school. The minister also inaugurated Thadakalwal-Barota road under NABARD. The 8 Km road project is completed with an estimated cost of Rs 292.70 lakh. Dr Manohar Lal Sharma said the road link from Thadakalwal to Barota via Bhid was a long pending demand, adding that road link is vital for the development of the area. He further added that link road will give road access to over 10 panchayats will lower down the difficulties to great extent. On the ocassion a colourful cultural programme by information department on the theme of Dogri folk dance and songs was present on the ocassion which was well appreciated by the gathering. School students of Government High School also present cultural items on patriotic theme. XEN PMGSY, DY Dir Cooperatives, DFO Billawar, AEE PWD, Head Master GHS Barota accompanied the minister during the tour.
