Next Monday!!! Best Gardening Classes in SA and still only a $5 donation! San Antonio Garden Center 3310 N. New Braunfels at Funston, adjacent to the San Antonio Botanical Garden Monday, August 18 SESSION 1: Invasive Plants: Invasion by Exotic Species 12:15pm Presented by Cheryl Hamilton, Lonnie Shockley and Judith Shockley. The three are members of the Alamo Area Master Naturalists, the Boerne and San Antonio Chapters of the Native Plant Society of Texas; and are Volunteer Citizen Scientists with the Balcones Chapter of the “Invaders of Texas” Program. Together they teach Citizen Scientist training courses, organize volunteers for eradication of invasive plants and advocate prevention and management. To date, they have led volunteers in eradicating more than 22,000 invasive plants in Natural Areas and Preserves in Bexar County. SESSION 2: Collecting, Storing and Using Native SeedsMinette Marr 1:30pm Presented by Minnette Marr, Plant Conservationist with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin. Before joining the Wildflower Center, she managed the Wetlands Restoration Nursery in the headwaters of the San Marcos River and monitored invasive plant species for regional in situ restoration projects and national and international ex situ conservation programs. Between 2005 and 2009 she and other Wildlife staff and volunteers collected Texas seeds for the Millennium Seed Bank at Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew. Most recently she has been involved in surveying vegetation for the National Park Service. Since May she has worked in the East Texas Big Thicket, the Guadalupe Mountains National Preserve, and the Chihuahuan Desert near Fort Stockton. More info: gardeningvolunteers.org/gvstwp/classes-2/
