Nice section in the Times today on Energy. As someone working as a process engineer in the refining industry in the early 1980s, it is interesting to see that we have now started exporting oil (light crude that is officially a refined product since is separately from the gas when producing shale oil (do not confuse this with oil shale, which is pretty gunky material)). The 400,000 Bbl tanker (16.8 million gallons) shown in the photo still only represents roughly 30 minutes worth of the oil that we process in the US (roughly 17-18 million Bbls/day).
