Nigeria plans to install 10 GW of solar by 2024 04.06.2013: Nigeria’s Federal Minister of Power and Steel Chinedu Nebo has signed a memorandum of understanding with Korean company HQMC Korea Co. Ltd. to install 10 GW of PV power plants in the country by 2024, according to local news portal leadership.ng. Under the agreement, HQMC Korea expects to invest $30 billion in the project starting in January 2014. The company aims to install at least 1 GW of solar projects every year for 10 years. The Nigerian government has started to focus on solar energy only recently. In mid-April, Nigerian Federal Minister of Science and Technology Henshaw Ewa said at a press conference that the Nigerian government intends to create a science park in the country where researchers will focus on developing technologies for solar module manufacturing. Ewa stressed that he was not against the import of modules, but he said creating a domestic PV industry was necessary to guarantee power supply in the country. © PHOTON power.gov.ng leadership.ng/news/010613/fg-korean-firm-sign-30bn-pact-generat e-10000-megawatts
