No one DJ battle is perfect. Ive been involved with a lot of them. - TopicsExpress

No one DJ battle is perfect. Ive been involved with a lot of them. Things go wrong. You try to improve it for next year, learning from experience. The battles I do respect are the ones that respect the culture and progress the art form. One such battle is The Reebok Pump IDA WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS 2014 which has its own format and identity. (BTW I really miss ITF too. And the Allies All-Star Beatdown. And GrandMaster Roc Raidas Gong DJ Battle. And Vinyl Kombat. etc.) IDA is sponsored by but not owned by Reebok. DMC USA is sponsored by but not owned by Rane. I never instantly hated on the corporate owned - beverage, bottle or burger promoting - DJ competitions UNTIL they claimed to be the Worlds biggest Nations premier. You might say, Thats what everyone says. But IF you are on the cultural side - isnt this the constant struggle between the culture and the industry? Culturally, we respect those who DONT distort history to make a buck... And we all know that industry has done this to Hip Hop pioneers & legends - from the door! One could say they offer the Worlds biggest prize/s of all DJ battles, or are the Worlds biggest party rocking DJ competition, etc. Just add a few extra words to be more accurate. The world needs more DJ battles - for all kinds of DJs - but I would respect them more if new corporate competitions didnt front like they where the biggest. It honestly looks desperate and diminishes what authenticity the battle could have had. At least one family owned company, with branches world wide, began in the 80s and kept their DJ battles going, with or without its big name sponsors. New corporate owned DJ competitions, which all appeared in the 2000s can only hope to last as long and be as legendary as DMC has. Money can buy you publicity but it cant guarantee your authenticity. Will their battles continue if the corporation that created them pulls out?
