Non-injury Hit & Run Collision Involving Stolen Vehicle Riverside Sheriff K-9 Officer Baron makes the arrest... On December 3, 2014 at 9:30 am, Officers from the San Jacinto Police Department responded to a hit and run traffic collision on Fifth Street at the intersection of Hewitt Street in San Jacinto. The investigation revealed Michael Ortiz was driving a stolen vehicle north on Hewitt Street when he lost control and struck a utility pole. Ortiz left the stolen vehicle and ran from the scene. Deputies searched the area. The RIverside County Sheriffs K9 Unit assisted, and PSD Baron found Ortiz hiding under a pile of clothing and apprehended him. The utility pole was broken, and live power lines were left dangling on the ground. This caused a power outage in the area, and the road was closed while repairs were performed. Ortiz had multiple outstanding felony arrest warrants, and he was booked into jail. The San Jacinto Police Department is committed to the safety of the citizens of San Jacinto and will be vigilant in investigating all crimes of this nature.
