Not even injuries will stop them from playing for flag... From: By Camille B. Naredo, ABS-CBNnews MANILA – Gilas Pilipinas stalwarts Ranidel de Ocampo and Jason Castro are well on their way to recovery after suffering ankle injuries in an exhibition game and will play in the FIBA Asia Championships, said national team coach Chot Reyes. Both De Ocampo and Castro sustained ankle injuries during the Philippines’ tune-up game against Kazakhstan last week. “The injuries of Ranidel and Jason were not as serious,” Reyes said during a press conference Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena. “They practiced today, but they are not yet at a hundred percent.” “We still have a couple of days, and in that time, hopefully, we can get them close to a hundred percent,” he added. Reyes stressed that both Castro and De Ocampo “will play.” “I don’t think we can keep those two guys from playing,” he said. De Ocampo played limited minutes against Kazakhstan after rolling his ankle. Castro suffered his injury towards the end of the game, which saw him score 20 points and lead Gilas to a 92-89 win. The FIBA Asia Championships tip off on August 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Gilas Pilipinas will play Saudi Arabia in their first game of the tournament. dodge/
