Not much or a lunch break today for the folks at Queenslands - TopicsExpress

Not much or a lunch break today for the folks at Queenslands Double Island Point, west of Gympie. The rain gauge was reading 22.6mm at half-past-noon. An hour later, it was over 81mm. By 2:05, it had reached 100mm. Its now made it to 112mm. And rising. Rain has kept emergency services busy across South-East Queensland. In the Gold Coast hinterland, a swiftwater rescue was carried out to save a man in his 50s, trapped by floodwater on the roof of his car. Elsewhere, a teenager was swept down a creek. Brisbane itself has had falls of around 30mm so far, though close to 70mm has fallen in the suburb of Willawong. Both the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast have had falls of around 90mm so far. While Queensland deals with the #bigwet, on the other side of the country, the Pilbara is sweating through the #bigheat. The highest temperatures have been recorded north of Newman, with Marble Bar just a fraction off its forecast high of 49C. Thats 120 to those of you in North America. The Bureau of Meteorology says a slight wind change is all it would take for Marble Bar to nudge past 50, a high that has only been recorded three times in Australia. Those heatwave conditions are expected to move south and east over the next week, bringing relief to the Pilbara - it will be a cardigan-friendly 43C on Sunday - but severe heat to WAs south-west as well as Townsville and North Queensland.
