Not sure it was necessary for Paddy McGuinness to open this years - TopicsExpress

Not sure it was necessary for Paddy McGuinness to open this years Channel 4 Comedy Gala with a skit that, following his declaration that this country has a big fat problem involved him sending a dance troupe comprising a load of skinny young women into the audience to drag all the fatties from the first five rows up on stage for a workout. (Interestingly, they couldnt find that many - rather undermined his point I thought!) Neither was I especially impressed when, on seeing the only particularly large fellow heading up on stage, he declared Weve got a real big un... weve got a live one! and then proceeded to tell the guy hed let himself go... but were gonna fix that before having him and all the other chubbies lay down and do pelvic thrusts on stage. He was clearly trying to look as though he wasnt bothered, but underneath seemed mortified - Im now waiting for his tale to appear in the Mail in a few months: 30st Keith: McGuinness skit shamed me into gastric op... It all just goes to confirm what I already knew - that with the prevalence of fat jokes in stand-up now, anyone who goes to one of these things in possession of a fat body can expect to at the very least be made the butt of the joke, and at worst be selected for humiliation. Big maybe, but certainly not clever. An odd choice of target for Mr. McGuinness, who whilst formerly a fitness instructor and more recently presenter of the national Slimming World Awards, has also done commercials for Greggs and Pizza Hut, and who famously got his big break starring alongside the-then less than svelte Peter Kay. Thanks for the heads up Aleasha :o)
