Not to make this hugely-deserved tribute to Tom Spanbauer about me, but I was an early adopter -- I hired him to be my writing therapist in the fall of 1989 after I dropped out of an MFA program (having lasted only 2 days). Our therapy sessions usually involved many cigarettes (me) and drinks downstairs at the scummy bar on Second Avenue, below the apartment I shared with our mutual friend, and it gave me more than the MFA program Id just fled ever could have: it gave me Tom, one of the most beautiful writers and compassionate souls Ive ever known. I treasure those memories of writing therapy and was honored to be his publicist for The Man Who Fell in Love With the Moon.
