Notes on cleve schl brd mtg 3/25/2014 Once again the board used stalling tactics to delay the public speaking. In violation of past board practice and policy, the board combined a hearing on the calendar with the regular meeting. In the past the hearing would have been held at 5:00 pm so as not to interfere with citizens who were only concerned with the agenda. Needless to say the chair allowed discussion during the hearing which took up a lot of time on items which did not pertain to the calendar. Next they opened the business meeting with a 5 minute presentation on how they were controlling the message, all the articles and media coverage over the past month touting how great the district is doing. This is what your up against you should also note that there was only 1 tv station present. The public speaking began around 7:40 after several of the 200 ctu members had to leave. During the session a number of school made complaints similar to LW about there heat. In a slap in the face to the union after the board shuffled the speaking forms to put a council person first and bishops and ministers next the vice president of our union was moved to almost the bottom of the pile. You should note that he thanked the district for delaying the cuts. Bottom line unless they were lying they still have to address a $14 to 22 mill deficit and it seems that every one is clueless that there are going to be cuts every year in the same amount because the projections show an average 1350 student loss per year until the end. Once again a parent brought to light a situation that district knowingly created dealing with the mill creek community which would force parents to leave the district. Instead of their children graduating from k-8 and heading to nearby john adams they were sent to JFK which requires 3 buses to get there that represented a loss of about 300 students per year. Approx 200 ctu were there. After my speech at least 100 stood to indicate they will be at the next meeting, appropriately april fools day 4/1 in their corporate tower 1111 superior. You should note that this room can only fit 50 people. An action to show are conviction would be to email the board your intent to attend the meeting and force them to move it. Note all media should be contacted. Considering what’s at stake we must start to control our message, this is not the time to quit we must step up the pressure and demand that they tell us what the plans are for the manipulated yearly enrollment loss oh and by the way we must bring to light the district action to force parent from the district. The other thing is TFA, our new talent officer (rebranded human resourses) was the vp of TFA so that surely is a conflict of interest, in addition as per contract TFA for every hire is paid $4000 the first year and $5000 if the hire stays for any part of the second. We must not rest until the same offer is made as an inducement for certificated applicant. Failure to do this will undermine their argument and shed light on this disgrace. Also needed is research into how TFA destabilized other districts.
