{November 17th 2013} How quick time has passed...its been 1 year since I was standing outside watching the weather for over an hour and waiting for a significant storm to approach...hoping the rain would not get ahead of the strong cold front so that I could capture some images with my camera. Watching 3 radars on my phone and Chris & the boys watching the TV in the house for any updates. What happened next was something I waited a long time to see...a super cell that formed and a long awaited sighting of a Tornado! But what I wasnt prepared for was the massive size it would take on and witnessing the beginning of a path of widespread damage that would become a life changing event for so many. Often times as I drive down the Flatville road or look to the west from my farm I still see it forming and moving, its become a ghost image that is forever with me. I remember hearing the Jet Engines above my house and the sky standing still in an emerald green like cast. Running into my house and yelling to the boys to grab the pets and my hard drive of all my photos and to stay in the old cellar basement until I said it was safe to come out. Chris ran outside with me and videoed the wicked event and at the same time started calling neighbors that we could see were in the path of the Tornado with my phone. Then so quickly it passed and the rain finally caught up with it unknowingly increasing its strength and destroy a long loved family farm we have known then taking its aim on many others. Case & I jumped in his Jeep and headed down the slab and Chris & TJ in Rio and made their way to Maggies house to see if she was okay. We all now have a new understanding for the word Gone. Gone was her farm and Gone was my friends the Mifflins home too. As we came upon the properties I looked to the northeast and noticed something wasnt right about the Gifford elevator that always see out my salon window every morning as I get ready. Then the news came quickly that the strong little town was hit! My stomach sank and my head was spinning...this Tornado became Rain-Wrapped and was the most deceiving storm for anyone from the Gifford area to witness. Its been a year and Ive met many new people and listened to their stories of where they were and how it affected them. It does change you wether you were in the front line or just an observer. Im thankful this November that all were safe and many have fought on to rebuild.
