Now that, at last, the plight of horses in this country is becoming newsworthy surely the time to call for equine sanctuaries is here? I mentioned this and the setting up of a petition for such two weeks ago. Since then I have been looking at sanctuaries here and worldwide - they are, in the main run only through the generosity of donations. Well because of the terrible problem Ireland now has surely we should call on the Government to fund equine sanctuaries to some extent , after all had government bodies stepped in and dealt with the mounting abuse and indiscriminate breeding we could all see happening there wouldnt be so many horses starving to death in Irish fields and the sides of roads that we see now? How would this work? Would some of the rescues already in existence become official sanctuaries? Would the Government set up new sanctuaries? A letter has to be written to the Government to accompany the petition calling for sanctuaries so Id like to hear from rescues as to their views on this and how they think sanctuaries will work. We cannot keep relying on these overworked rescues raising money and tearing around the country to step in when they are not sure they will always be able to raise the money. And every day, every night we see more and more pleas from people asking for help.Yes the government has stepped in, eventually, and seized horses but what would have happened to them without our amazing rescues after that, what was their fate going to be do you think? Surely there needs to be security so that every distress plea can be answered. Is funded sanctuaries the answer, it seems to be the answer for me and so please let me know then we can get this petition going and make sure every life gets saved...
