Nowhere in our country is the celebration of the worker more - TopicsExpress

Nowhere in our country is the celebration of the worker more prominent than in our area of New England right now. I dont know how many of you have heard the plight of our Market Basket Supermarkets where you live, but theyve won their fight!!! A few months ago, the DeMoulas family, who own and operate Market Basket Supermarkets had a change of heart. Their CEO of many years, Arthur T. DeMoulas had taken SUCH good care of his employees with pay scale, education help, promotions, and benefits packages, that the family voted against retaining him as CEO and put the more bottom dollar friendly cousin, Arthur S. DeMoulas into the CEO chair. The employees and customers of Market Basket had a little something to say about that. People stopped shopping at the stores and no matter how hard it was for the employees, they stopped working. The truck drivers stopped delivering goods, the store shelves were left bare, the stockers walked out, the cashiers did not show up for scheduled shifts........ The DeMoulas family members rallied and offered jobs to those who were out of work and fired all the old employees, but no one showed up for their job fairs. No one came and put in applications. Arthur T. DeMoulas offered several times to buy out the Supermarket stocks being held by his family members. They refused. When it became clear that there WAS no help but to put Arthur T. DeMoulas BACK in the big chair, the turncoat family members finally agreed to sell their shares of the market to Arthur T. DeMoulas for over 1.5 BILLION dollars. I am so proud of our New England workers of Market Basket Supermarkets. They KNEW that Arthur T. DeMoulas had cared for them for years and would care for them for years to come. When he was in trouble, even though it was a big hit to their personal pocketbooks, they did what was RIGHT instead of what was EASY and they rallied behind him!! Congratulations this Labor Day to the employees and consumers of Market Basket Supermarkets!!! WAY TO GO!!!
