Numbers 20:23-24 (And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor by the coast of the land Edom saying, Aaron shall be gathered to his people, for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at water of Merbah). A lot of people get stuck on their tracks when the time to achieve their long term dream comes close. I call this failure at the edge of breakthrough. This phenomenon has no respect for anyone including pastors. As a matter of fact that ministers are advised to be very careful at all times because when it is time for them to be glorified in the job which they have put so much work, suddenly there comes a failure. I am going to use two popular case studies in the bible. These are Moses and Aaron on one side and Gehazi on the other end. Moses as you know happened to be one of the meekest prophets in the bible. Unfortunately he was a victim of an instrument of destruction - people. There was a time when the children of Israel were thirsty and God told Moses to go and strike the rock. Of course he did strike the rock and water came out for the children of Israel to drink. Then came another time when the same challenge of drought arose and the Lord told Moses to speak to the rock, but because of the nasty complaints and comments made by the people of Israel while the drought lasted Moses was provoked to anger that he had to strike the rock instead of speaking to it as ordered by God at the water of Meriba. God was so angry that he showed Moses the Promised Land but refused to allow him step into it. That rock was a significance of Jesus that Jesus was to die once and that the second strike was tantamount to the killing of Christ a second time. Surprisingly, the people of Israel did not sympathize with Moses but instead they felt unconcerned with what Moses was passing through. It did not end there; Aaron’s own case was equally remembered by God. According to God’s word, Aaron was stripped of his garments and his son was dressed in his stead. What was his offence, he acceded to the pressure of the children of Israel, while Moses was away on the mountain seeking the face of God, to make a golden calf, an idol for the people to worship. Aaron did this in a bid to please the people and this was the reason he missed the promise land and was gathered to his people as a corpse. He did not walk home on his legs rather he was carried home. What about Gehazi, (2kindgs 5:20-27), a son of the prophet who served Elisha meritoriously. But at the edge of the transfer of the mantle of anointing, his weakness, greed showed up. Naaman a leprous General who came for healing in the house of the prophet Elisha brought gift to Elisha. When Gehazi saw that Elisha his master rejected the gifts, he went after Naaman and collected those gifts in falsehood. He told lies that he was sent by his master to collect them. Worst still when the prophet asked him where he was coming from, Gehazi still went ahead to lies to his master, the prophet, that he had been around. Beloved, every sin you commit hardens you to commit another one. The world is filled with people who suffer setbacks at the edge of their breakthrough. This is a spirit and you must deal with it. I want you to look at yourself thoroughly and evaluate things and events which has been happening to you. Let me give you a few examples of failures at the edge of breakthrough; Firstly,a man was about winning a huge contract. When it was to be given to him, the Managing Director of the company had an accident and died. When the new M.D came, he cancelled all the former contracts. Secondly,a student having prepared very well for his final exams had an accident on the day of his exam. He broke his legs and could not write the exams anymore. Thirdly,a pregnant woman had an attack on the eve of her delivery and the child died. Fourthly,a man whom I know very well won a big contract after suffering for many years, he died on the same day he received his mobilization cheque that was approved - a condition of death was attached to his breakthrough. This is the word of God from me to you. I command; anyone of you who is being enslaved by this enemy, be loosed in the name of Jesus
