OCC Official Chart Update - Close of business Tuesday: Crazy Stupid Love leads the race to Number 1, and looks set to give Cheryl Cole her fourth solo chart topper! The up-tempo sax-adorned track, which also features Tinie Tempah, will be Cheryl‘s last release under her former moniker of Cole, after marrying boyfriend Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini earlier this month. Crazy Stupid Love is out in front by a margin of almost 22,000 chart sales, and has been downloaded more than 77,000 times so far. Should the song maintain its momentum, Crazy Stupid Love is set to become Cheryl’s fourth solo chart topper and eighth including her Number 1s with Girls Aloud. Cheryl also appeared on the 2010 charity cover of R.E.M.’s Everybody Hurts for Helping Haiti. Meanwhile, Canadian newcomers Magic! are heading for their first UK Top 40 hit this weekend with their reggae-infused debut single, Rude, centred around a hopeful groom battling with a disapproving father-in-law. The track made its chart debut at Number 76 three weeks ago based on streams alone, climbing to Number 50 last Sunday. Upon its full release this week, Rude has leapt a massive 48 places to Number 2 midweek, streams of Rude have contributed to 5% of its midweek chart tally. After scoring a Number 1 with Icona Pop (I Love It) last summer and a Number 5 hit with Iggy Azalea (Fancy) earlier this year, Charli XCX is heading for her first Top 10 single as a lead artist this weekend. The 21-year-old from Hertfordshire is at Number 3 on today’s Update with Boom Clap. Ella Henderson holds firm at Number 4 with Ghost, while reigning chart kings Rixton slide four places to Number 5 today with Me And My Broken Heart. Neon Jungle are on track for their third Top 10 hit this weekend with Louder (9). The track is taken from their forthcoming debut album, Welcome To The Jungle, which is released in the UK next Monday (July 28). Thanks to a remix by Route 94, US house supremo Marc Kinchen’s 1995 house anthem, Always FT Alana (10), is set to make its UK Top 10 debut on Sunday. The track originally peaked at Number 69 first time around. And finally, Cher Lloyd is at 29 today with her comeback single, Sirens. Albums: 23 year old La Roux, (who now just consists of singer Elly Jackson), enters at Number 2 on today’s midweeks with her hotly anticipated second album, Trouble In Paradise. The follow up to 2009’s La Roux is just 8,000 copies behind Ed Sheeran’s X at this midway stage. If Ed holds on, this will be his fifth week at Number 1. Sam Smith climbs one place to Number 3 with In The Lonely Hour, while Dolly Parton is down one to Number 4 with Blue Smoke. George Ezra completes today’s Top 5, remaining static at Number 5 with Wanted On Voyage. Richard Thompson is new in at Number 9 today with his first acoustic album, Acoustic Classics. The veteran singer/songwriter’s recording career spans nearly 45 years however, based on its midweek position, this could very well be his highest charting solo album to date. Progressive rockers Yes enter at Number 10 with their 21st studio album, Heaven And Earth. The album was produced by Queen, David Bowie and Guns N’ Roses producer Roy Thomas Baker. Scottish singer/songwriter Kenny Anderson, AKA King Creosote, is heading for his fist Top 40 album with From Scotland With Love (15), while British country group Ward Thomas also look set to make their Top 40 debut with their new album, From Where We Stand (20).
