HALLELUJAH Im gone Get WERKED TINITE!!!!!!! The Most High just delivered THE CHERRY ON TOP!!!!!! WORLD OF BEBOP CJO’s World of Bebop is next in the fifth and final of Charleston’s resident big band’s regular season two-set shows of its 5th Anniversary Season. Artistic Director and Bandleader, Charlton Singleton, will lead the band through some of the most definitive works of the bebop era. The onset of World War II marked an end to the swing as the world knew it in jazz, as big bands began to diminish and musicians were sent overseas to fight. The 1940s presented a rise in smaller ensembles and a shift to intricate arrangements of improvisation. With the focus on improvisation, bebop allowed for limitless innovation. nspired by the more harmonically and rhythmically experimental players in swing era, such as Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Art Tatum, and Roy Eldridge, bebop musicians expanded the palette of musical devices from which to choose while improvising. Three of the most prolific pioneers and composers of the bebop era are trumpeter “Dizzy” Gillespie (John Birks), saxophonist Charlie “Bird” Parker, and pianist Thelonious Monk. CJO’s World of Bebop will premiere new in-house arrangements of classic bebop “heads” such as “Groovin’ High,” “Billie’s Bounce,” “I Remember Clifford,” and “ ‘Round Midnight.”
