OHANAEZE NDIGBO REJECT PRESIDENT JONATHAN AGAIN Ohanaeze rejects members’ plan to endorse Jonathan Ohanaeze Ndigbo Imeobi (Inner Caucus) on Saturday, at its national secretariat in Enugu, tactically rejected a motion to adopt President Goodluck Jonathan as the consensus candidate of Ndigbo for February presidential election. Although Jonathna’s endorsement was not even on the agenda, frontline Igbo chieftain, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, moved the motion midway into the meeting, urging Ohanaeze to adopt Jonathan for the Presidency. Iwuanyanwu, a member of Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) Board of Trustees (BoT), informed the caucus that he came with a message from 90 per cent of Igbo, who were supporting the re-election of the President for a second term. He told the meeting that they should give him an answer so that he could reply those who sent him. Iwuanyanwu’s motion caused an uproar in the meeting, which compelled the Presidential General, Gary Igariwe, to adjourn abruptly. Following the rejection of the motion, Iwuanyanwu walked out of the meeting. The meeting ended abruptly amid a shouting match between those against and those that were in support of the motion for the endorsement of the President. Notable Igbo leaders like Mbazulike Amechi, Dozie Ikedife, Eze Ozobu and Ben Nwabueze were not in attendance at the meeting, which had started on a tumultuous note as some members kicked against the attempt to extend the tenure of the national executive to four years instead of two years. A representative of Ndigbo in Diaspora, Nwachukwu Anakwenze, told the meeting that there was no contention about the tenure of the executive as the constitution was amended under the previous administration, extending the tenure to four years. Anakwenze said that it was obvious that some persons who were challenging the tenure of the executive were hired to cause trouble in Ohanaeze. Founder and former national chairman of defunct Justice Party, Ralph Obiorah, disapproved of the comment by Anakwenze and walked out of the meeting. Obiorah later told journalists that it was obvious that some people came to the meeting with a predetermined agenda. He maintained that the tenure of the executive had long elapsed, and those supporting tenure extension were persons who masqueraded under Diaspora to collect N4 million from the N20 million given to Ohanaeze last September by Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State. In a communiqué after the meeting, the group said: “The amendment of the Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, during the Imeobi meetings of 14/8/2010 and 30/10/2010 as well as during the General Assembly meeting of 6/11/2010 as shown in the video tape today is hereby ratified by the Imeobi meeting today 3/1/2015, hence the tenure of the office of national and state officers of Ohanaeze Ndigbo remains four years. “That a committee will be set up by the NEC of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on the issue of reconciliation of all aggrieved parties in Ohanaeze Ndigbo. “That the said committee shall equally look into the issues of multiple litigations plundering Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
