OK- I have to admit that Ive been a little absent the last few days. Ive been indulging in one of my hobbies - genealogy and have gotten carried away exploring new paths down family lines. This is a hobby that I have dabbled in over the past 35 years, gathering data over the multitude paths for MY side of the family and my husbands. As other people do the same, more and more data is available online that enables you to cross over missing links in the family tree. One keeps returning to task, hoping to find new clues or more data that helps to solve several mysteries and gaps that still remain. But I must say that it is a Pandoras box of obsession once you cross-over into new territory, because it can take you deeper into a past that you had not followed before. So, once you cross that data bridge and start following links that appear for parents, then their parents, and on and on, you must explore every branch while the iron is hot, because it sometimes is hard to find the path back to the same place again. Needless to say, this time, Ive printed over a REAMs worth of paper with trees, census reports, names, lists and stories. Ive found my p-grandfathers houses in the 1910, 1920, 1930 and 1940 census, plus my fathers place in 1940 (around the corner). I found my p-grandfathers WWI draft card. I found a path on my m-grandfathers side, beyond his G-Grandfather that I already knew, taking me back to the 1700s. For my FIL, who was a love child, I found detailed information about the family his mother had after she married. Maybe someday we will connect up w the younger generation. It is fun to be IN THE CHASE while it lasts, a regular Sherlock Holmes task to follow every clue in the mystery. But - as a Pandoras box, it must be closed and all of those print-outs set aside for analysis another day, because there is WORK to be done! FUN while it lasted though.
