OK.... I am now going to do what many consider beating a dead horse, but this needs to be said... AGAIN! I am publicly calling out all local venues.... if you book a classic rock band run an ad or two on a classic rock radio station. Promote your place! Get the word out. I see band members putting out posters, fliers, and busting their asses to get people out, and the venue makes an announcement(free, no charge, no investment beyond a minute of time to type a little text) here and they seem to think thats all they should have to do. DO NOT rely on Facebook to get it done for you because anything you put here gets followed immediately with everything that everyone in this town posts, including other venues, bands. fans and such. Bands have differing levels of following, but you cant possibly book a band that will pack your place every Saturday night. It is not fair to expect that because one or two bands can fill a room that every other band in town can do the same thing. The truth is that filling a room has little to do with talent, or musicianship as Ive seen Rob Fahey play to 25 people, and bands who have pre-recorded, and are not even playing half of what is coming out of their PA fill a room. When I mention that I saw______ here all i get is Damn... I wish I knew that _______ was playing there because I live close by and was sitting at home. It happens way too often. That is on the venue, not the performer! Get with it folks. GET YOURSELVES PROFITABLE and stop relying on the performers to do your marketing for you. Rant over.
