OK, heres a theoretical question about photometric data on LED fixtures versus tungsten. Whenever I try to use manufacturers data sheets to compare the brightness of LED fixtures to conventional fixtures, it always looks like the LEDs put out only a fraction of what the conventionals do. On paper, mid-priced LEDs tend to look unusable. But it was just suggested to me that the light from LEDs meters differently than tungsten, especially in more saturated colors where tungsten would be losing a lot of wavelengths. This is something I was already wondering about but hadnt heard anything concrete. Does anybody know of any research on this? Or have experience looking at LED fixtures next to tungsten fixtures that look comparable onstage but have radically different output figures on paper?
