OK, so to be fair, heres info on both sides of the argument for Prop 46: ballotpedia.org/California_Proposition_46,_Medical_Malpractice_Lawsuits_Cap_and_Drug_Testing_of_Doctors_(2014) There are plenty of scare tactics attached to this, but there is much to consider. Severity of alleged injury in medical malpractice claims in the US in 2013: Death: 31 percent Significant permanent injury: 19 percent Major permanent injury: 18 percent Quadriplegic, brain damage, lifelong care: 12 percent Minor permanent injury: 8 percent Major temporary injury: 7 percent Minor temporary injury: 3 percent Emotional injury only: 1 percent Insignificant injury: 0.4 percent Meaning that, out of the small percentage of people who were actually able to file a claim successfully, and there are plenty of barriers, 80% of them may likely not have a way to support themselves or their families. $250,000 is not much when you look at it in those terms. People file frivolous bs every day, but these cases are not. The lady who sued McDonalds after she spilled hot coffee on her lap received nearly $3 million. Im comparing the two to put it in perspective. Most physicians are good at their jobs, work their asses off, *are* to be trusted and do their jobs for the right reasons. I have all the respect in the world for them. (A few of them I am even fortunate to be able to count as friends) Yes, mistakes DO happen, but sometimes incredibly unfortunate events occur as well.
