OK, some theodicy on a Saturday night: Have met so many amazing humans tonight. Still trying to process it all. (Just in from the pediatric brain tumor fund-raiser.) Someone said to me: It really makes you thankful that youre not one of them. While I definitely understand the concept of thankfulness and perspective and counting ones blessings, Ive never understood the mentality of: Im congratulating myself because I dont have a tumor, so I must be chosen and lucky and God has a plan for me, blah, blah, blah. Poor you, lucky me! What about the people -- and the children -- who do have tumors? I dont look at those bald kids and think -- Whew, so glad thats not me; there but for the grace of God go I, etc. I think: Why do they have to go through that? Why? Why, period. WHY?????!!!!!!
