OK this has been bugging me all day. . . . . Plankton was created by Mr. Crabs. Mr. Crabs, henceforth called crabby, did not lend his genes to the birthing of Plankton, henceforth known as plank, but he did create the monster that plank is today. Firstly, let us consider the location of the two restaurants. They are right across the street from one another. What generates more business and subsequently revenue than a failing competitor within arms reach? (We will revisit this question a little later.) Secondly, let us take a look at planks staffing versus that of crabbys. Crabby has two live, if not eternally happy and miserable (respectively), staff members. These two create a...welcome...environment in which customers interact with another living being to order and receive their food. At the Chum Bucket you have Plank and his domestic partner robot Karen (sea creature and submarine robot relations are not accepted in Iowa) and we have seen in the show where plank was the one serving the customer and Karen is manufacturing the food. I am not sure if a sentient submarine robot has ever tasted food but I am betting not. This lack of back of the house knowledge and intuition can cause a sup-par product and can cause tension on the front end. Thirdly, crabs has never really been worried about the secret recipe for the crabby patty getting stolen. There is only one chef at the Krusty Krab and he has trained said chef that if anyone ever approaches him about the recipe they must undergo rigorous trials to obtain it. The likelihood of there being a legitimate secret recipe are slim to none and the trials are just a flashy way of occupying the thiefs time. This also creates a scene when the the theft goes awry and again it drums up more business because this place has a secret recipe sounds a lot better than this is only place to get a burger in town. Now with all that has been put down already you may be saying to yourself, crabby is too greedy to do something like this. Funding the building of a new restaurant is expensive but crabby doesnt always look to the here and now. His character is perversely obsessed with money so much so that he sleeps on a bed of it. Building a competitor across the street from your successful business and getting someone to run it isnt that hard, especially if you are as maniacal as crabby is. Crabby can be quite crazy and will go to extreme lengths for a penny. Just imagine forgery, if crabby were to forge a false will naming plank the inheritor of his 12th uncle 3 times removed on his mothers sides restaurant and had this delivered by someone who could lay a false front or even create a clone to do it for him then he would have just given himself the opportunity to create a villainous relationship between the two establishments. (Dont think crabby could do it? how about the forged secret recipe naming Plankton as the secret ingredient in the Krabby) Patty?This relationship would drive customers to both establishments until they discovered the better food at the one which would reroute them all to the better establishment. Crabbys initial investment would have matured ten fold in a matter of weeks. Lets back peddle here, What generates more business and subsequently revenue than a failing competitor within arms reach?. We are going back to answer this question. The ONLY thing that would generate more revenue than a naturally failing competitor would be a competitor that was intentionally placed whose sole purpose was to attract business only to provide a sub-par product as to redirect attention to the original business. Once the second business started to fail it didnt need to be funded anymore so crabby could break all monetary ties to the location and redouble his efforts to his new clientele. All in all, crabby is money hungry enough to lie, cheat, and steal (even from the dead(hes number 1)) to make a buck and opening the second restaurant that was destined to fail was a smart move if he had started to take a dive on his first restaurant. The subsequent negative business relations and the leaking of the existence of a secret formula drove up business for crabby while his competitor suffered. This is the Hash slinging slasher singing off.
