ON THE RECEPTION OF OBONG VICTOR ATTAH A grand reception is being planned for the former governor of Akwa Ibom State and the Co-Chairman of the Committee on Devolution of Power at the just concluded Jonathan National Conference, Obong Victor Attah. I deem it fit to make the following observations: 1) Obong Attah is a man I have enormous respect for though I have reservations about the manner he led the state as it concerns project completion and monitoring. We should always remember that though he had a clear vision and plan for the development of Akwa Ibom State, he was unable to hold some local and foreign contractors accountable which led to non execution/non completion of crucial projects such as the Ibom Science Park, Ibom International Airport, among others. However, he would have done five times what Akpabio is doing if he had the kind of resources Akpabio has. 2) Obong Attahs reception for me is more of a political rally than a sincere honour to a worthy statesman. The Victor Attah that I know is not a tribalist, he does not discriminate base on where one comes from. So I object strongly to the attempt by some people to reduce him to a tribal leader. Though an Ibibio, he is not an Ibibio leader but an Akwa Ibom Leader. So if a reception is to be held for him, it should be all encompassing. Ibibios, Annangs and Oron should be involved. 3) I equally find it most distressing the attempt by some folks to discredit Attahs reception which they view as a slap on their little god. Attah is too decent a man to be equated with the Godswill Akpabios of this world. 4) When Attah was the governor cultism had no place in the state but today being a cultist is the first qualification for one to be in government. 5) I am aware this is all about 2015, the bottom line is that Akpabio sucession plan must be frustrated. 6) Unless we stop being tribalistic our leaders will never be accountable. On 2015, the people should decide not Akpabio. God bless Akwa Ibom State
