ONE of the countrys oldest primary schools, St Annes Primary School took part in athletics for the first time since its establishment more than a century ago. The girls from Pratt St yesterday took part in the Suva Zone One athletics meet at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay. The school walked away with two gold, two silver and three bronze medals from the six grades in the under-9 to U14 which they competed in. School sports co-ordinator Ana Nawaqavuli said they were pleased with the performance of their athletes. We only take part in netball but this year we decided to also compete in athletics and we are pleased with the results, Nawaqavuli said. We took a 50-member squad and took part in almost all the events. Nawaqavuli said lack of facilities prevented them from taking part in other sports. She said they had to rely on the facilities at their sister schools to train their athletes for the zonal meet. Nawaqavuli said they looked forward for better results next year. Travelling to Cathedral Secondary School, Marist Brothers High School and at the National Stadium is quite costly but we thought the girls needed exposure and thats why we decided to take part in the Suva Zone One meet. Marist Primary School was once again crowned the overall winner. The 10 schools that participated in the day-long meet were Yat Sen Primary, Vatuwaqa Primary, St Marcellin, Suva Methodist, Dudley Intermediate, Draiba Fijian, Marist Primary, St Annes, Gospel Primary and Annesley Infant t. Meanwhile, St Agnes Primary School is looking forward to defending its title in the Suva Zone Two which will be held at the ANZ Stadium today. The 116-member will be outfitted with athletics uniform squad for the first time. fijitimes/story.aspx?id=282030 St Annes finally runs - Fiji Times Online fijitimes Athletes of Saint Annes Primary School in an excited mood as they were the first batch of students ...
