OP snubs community radio stations meeting The Office of the President today failed to appear before Ntlo ya Dikgosi to respond to a motion requesting government to set up community radio stations. Government adopted a Botswana Communication Regulatory Authority Bill in 2013 which abolished community radio stations. The motion by Kgosi Maruje Masunga to have community radio stations for information, dialogue and community development was deferred after presidential affairs minister failed to appear. There was no explanation given to the house about the absence of the minister of presidential affairs and public administration. Former MISA Director, Phenyo Butale has criticized the government for adopting #BOCRA Bill which repealed the Broadcasting Act of 1998. Butale argued that community radio stations were an important tool for any community that may often have issues of greater concerns to themselves that are ignored by national, commercial radio and television services.
