Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Kirron Kher. Transformers: Age of Extinction (also at the Mansfield Drive-in Theatre & Marketplace) An automobile mechanic (Mark Wahlberg) and his daughter make a discovery that brings down the Autobots (Nicola Peltz) - and a paranoid government official (Stanley Tucci) - on them. Peter Cullen returns to voice Optimus Prime, and Michael Bay returns to direct. Opened last week at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia (short) Travel back in time to see dinosaurs come to life! Meet the plant-eating Argentinosaur, the largest animal to have ever walked the Earth, and its nemesis, the Giganotosaur, a carnivore who could easily challenge the famous T-rex. Travel into space to witness the movement of tectonic plates or the arrival of a comet that will seal the fate of the Dinosaurs. The action is intense and the landscape is out of this world! OPENED LAST WEEK IN THE AREA Autonagar Surya (India) (only at Digiplex Bloomfield) A Telugu language political thriller directed by Deva Katta, and set in the 1980s. An orphan named Surya works as a mechanic in Autonagar. When Surya accidentally kills a goon, he goes to jail for five years. While there, he completes his engineering course to start his dream project: to build an electric car. When he lives prison, however, he faces hurdles while working on his project from the city Mayor and his henchmen who control the Autonagar area. The Dance of Reality (Chile/ France, 2013) (only at Criterion Cinemas in New Haven) Director Alejandro Jodorowsky was born in 1929 in Tocopilla, a coastal town on the edge of the Chilean desert where this film was shot. It was there that Jodorowsky underwent an unhappy and alienated childhood as part of an uprooted family. Blending his personal history with metaphor, mythology and poetry, Jodorowskys first film in 24 years reflects his philosophy that reality is not objective but rather a dance created by our own imaginations. Ek Villain (India) (only at Cinemark Buckland Hills in Manchester CT) When his lover becomes the latest victim of a serial killer, Guru blurs the line between good and evil in his pursuit of revenge. Mohit Suri directed this Hindi language action thriller. OPENING THIS WEEK IN HARTFORD America: Imagine the World without Her Dinesh DSouza teams again with co-writer/ director John Sullivan for their latest speculative documentary, a story that imagines that the United States lost the Revolutionary War and therefore never existed. This follows their 2016: Obama’s America. Yes, mid-terms and mid-summer are here. So, very strangely, are Noam Chomsky and Bill Ayers. Go see it with someone who you will edit into incoherency. Begin Again (2013) A chance encounter between a disgraced music-business executive (Mark Ruffalo) and a young singer-songwriter new to Manhattan (Keira Knightley) turns into a promising collaboration between the two talents. John Carney directs. Deliver Us From Evil NY police officer Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana) investigates a series of crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest (Édgar Ramírez), schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the possessions that are terrorizing their city. Directed by Scott Derrickson, and also featuring Olivia Munn. Earth To Echo (also at the MANSFIELD DRIVE-IN) After receiving a bizarre series of encrypted messages, a group of kids embark on an adventure with an alien who needs their help. A Walt Disney film from first-time director Dave Green, and featuring Teo Halm, Astro and Reese Hartwig. Tammy (also at the MANSFIELD DRIVE-IN) After losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, a woman (Melissa McCarthy) hits the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother (Susan Sarandon). Directed by actor Ben Falcone (who played the alleged Air Marshall in Bridesmaids), and also featuring Dan Aykroyd. Opening Friday July 4 at Real Art Ways in Hartford Cold in July (US/ France) When a protective father (Michael C. Hall (Dexter)) meets a murderous ex-con, they soon find themselves entangled in a downwards spiral of lies and violence while having to confront their own inner psyche. Jim Mickle directs this adaptation of a crime thriller by Joe R. Lansdale that also features Sam Shepard and Don Johnson. We Are The Best (Sweden/ Denmark, 2013) Three girls in 1980s Stockholm decide to form a punk band -- despite not having any instruments and being told by everyone that punk is dead. Directed by Lukas Moodysson (Lilya-4-Ever, Together) Out Film CTs First Thursday film at Cinestudio at Trinity College in Hartford Birthday Cake (2013) A comedy that starts out small & civilized (a Hollywood Hills gay couple plan a small birthday party for their one year old daughter), and ends up way, way out of control, including a fundamentalist mother party crasher, a Mariah Carey-diva-level party planner, a dead clown, and a birthday cake that inadvertently resembles... something. The cast includes filmmaker Chad Darnell, Rib Hilis, and Lee Meriweather as the grandmother.
