OSUN STATE: Where is Rt Hon. Dimeji Bankole,Aregbesola’s Teacher on moral lesson? The Yoruba people will say ” Mokan, mokan ni oye nkan. Oye to kan ara Iwo nbowa kan ara Ede” This simply translates, “chieftaincy between the people of Iwo and Ede shall be a “turn by turn” event. I don’t want to impose a lengthy one on us here by telling the story behind that famous quotation. I just want to share with you on how the prediction contained in that statement came to past in the lives of the people of Ede earlier this week. It was however in the opposite. It was their “turn” this time and as arranged by the Emperor himself, Rauf Aregbesola, Governor of Osun State. The Oba of Ede, Oba Adesola Lawal couldn’t have had it worse in all his life. The good people of Ede couldn’t have suffered a more terrible disgrace in the whole of their years of existence in the human race. My deep feeling for people of Ede on that day is yet to know bond. It was at the event of the commissioning of another in his rolls of nonsensical, a Tailor Shop this time around. (Recall how he spent several billions of naira some three months ago to commission a Beer Joint at Gbongan junction. He had hardly returned to his desk at Abere from where he did the commissioning when the Beer Joint became moribund). Present at Government instances at the event were the Oba of Osogbo, Oba of Ede, political and government functionaries, men and women of the print and electronic media. Suddenly and without any reasonable cause, Aregbesola descended heavily on the Oba of Ede and his people over their agelong claim to being the rightful owner of the land on which the Government Secretariat, Abere was built. He spanked His Royal Highness with very harsh words such that “His Highness” was immediately reduced into a “His Lowness”. He lampooned him and his people seriously under the coverage of the television cameras. It was not a very good day for both the Kabiyesi and his people as they suffered an untold and undeserved embarrassment in the hands of the Governor on that occasion. When he was seemingly done with himself and realizing the fact that he has erred again and as usual, in a nonchalant manner, he asked the Kabiyesi for forgiveness on his outburst. That is medicine after death. My Comment: I remember telling you here before that (i) I align wholly with Kayode Ajulo’s suspicion and query of Governor Aregbesola’s mental fitness. (ii) I have also told you before that I hate a governor who engages his mouth in gear before using his brains. (iii) I told you the man is not from our land hence, his ill manners and total disrespect for the elders and traditional rulers. Recall, he did same at Ibadan against Obasanjo. On that occasion Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole, a far younger in age and the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives was there to tutor him on how not to insult elders. He took him on moral lessons in Yoruba land and to the admiration of the gathering. Another Governor who may be wiser wouldn’t have done that. Wisdom would have prevailed on him not to use such an occasion to treat boundary dispute. He would have known the horrifying implication of disrobing a Royal Father in the open the way he did. The Holy Books teaches us to respect our parents and all constituted authority. Let me ask, where was the virtuous preaches in this kind of behavior? “Ani Omoluabi ohun da lara Itu Baba Ita?” I’ll soon be back, Ayeniromo!!!
