OUR SPECIAL CONNECTIONS TO OUR PETS “You can never give back as much love as a dog gives you,” said my friend Chuck McCann. Chuck, who was the jovial “Hi guy” actor in the Man in the Medicine Cabinet commercials, was reminiscing about his black lab Moe. That dog was his best pal for ten years, never leaving his side. The day Moe was put to sleep in Chuck’s arms, and never woke up, Chuck was crushed. He mourned Moe for ten months. Then one little dog, looking like a toy, a Lhasa apso, with one blue eye and one brown, came right up to him. Chuck lifted him up. “He’s like a bag of feathers!” said Chuck, fighting the urge to fall in love again. Starting to put him down, Chuck said, “What’s his name?” “Moe,” said the owner. “Moe? This dog’s name is Moe?” The woman nodded. “I’ve got to have him!” he demanded. The woman was taken back by Chuck’s enthusiasm. “Well ... where would he sleep?” she asked. “Why, right on my bed,” said Chuck … with an air of … wouldn’t-everyone-know-that. The lady remained unsure. “Our home is perfect,” continued Chuck, “it’s built for dogs. They have their own door. They just let us stay there.” Well … maybe it was the humor … perhaps the passion … but the owner relented and Chuck had a new friend. ANOTHER DOG NAMED MOE. “I’ll always miss my first Moe,” said Chuck, “but this little Moe fills a big hole in my heart.” ••••••••• Our love for animals can be just as strong as for humans, cant it?
