OcSober Diary - Day 5 From the trenches It never changes.. every Saturday without fail the enemy launches an assault. It is always the same. First they form en mass. Their numbers so large that it is difficult to see where they start and finish. Their battle dress is an odd assortment of shapes, sizes and colours Some showing mostly skin. I fear these are the bravest warriors and it somehow leaves me uneasy.. less confident. I choke down some courage to ease my tension. I know if I can survive long enough in the battle, the enemy will become weak and easy to pick off I love this moment.. the calm before the storm.. every nerve ending is tingling.. is it the horror of what is about to come? Is it excitement for the coming battle? I have been down here in the trenches so long I begin to wonder what I look forward to more, the hope that one day I will leave this life to the distant land of Relationship and look forward to a safe, if a little boring life. Or is it the thrill of the fight that keeps me here Saturday after Saturday.. Slaying a dragon takes plenty of courage.. so much courage that it makes you vomit sometimes. Or do I attempt to slay one of these amazonian goddesses? A worthy challenge.. they always surround themselves with a few dragons which take all of my cunning to deceive, always easier if I have fellow knights join in the assault. Once I am upon this amazon do I realise that I am now drunk with courage and it causes me to lose my mind a little, slur my words and stagger a little. I worry that I will attempt to smash my sword against her shield, and penetrate her flesh, only to discover she cares not for swords at all and prefers to have a good old fashioned shield fight with another amazon.. I shake all doubt from my head. I check my battle dress, ensure I am protected and step out into the fray.. praying only that I live to see another sunrise so I can join my comrades in our ritual known as the Sunday Session where we can swap stories of the glorious battle to come..
