October the 21st was on a Saturday in 1989......I was playing at the Silver Spur at Lake Tawakoni......It was a real Honky Tonk and I had been playing there off and on for a few years.........Old Frank that run the place didnt hire a regular bouncer and always just depended on the crowd and band to pitch in if someone got out of hand.......Greg the bass player was a big old biker and he could handle two guys fighting all by himself so I really never got involved in helping them throw out any rowdy patron.......I usually just watched the action from the bandstand and didnt get involved......but on this night we happened to be on break and I was standing by the front door when the fight broke out right in front of me.......Old Frank and Greg were wrestling with this crazy guy that must have been on some of that superman drug stuff because he was getting the best of both of em........So Stupid me decided to help out.......The three of us did get the guy out the door and he seemed to kind of simmered down a little but before we could let loose of him he went wild again........Swinging his arms to get free.........I had him from the back while Frank and Greg had him by the arms........I learned real quick that Frank and Greg had more experience than I did at this because I took an elbow to the mouth getting a busted bloody lip and got a crown knocked loose in the front...........Frank and Greg came out without a scratch..........A small crowd came out front to see how it all ended and when some of them saw I had a busted lip they tore out after this wild man...........This guy ran and jumped in the back of a moving pickup just as it was pulling out on the highway and was gone........Just like that........It was my first and last night to try to be one of the bouncers in a club......From that night on my involvement in nightclubs has just been playing music..........I decided to leave the tuff stuff to the tuff guys
