Offense slow-to-go at first, but eventually responds Sunday night’s performance from the first team offense will do little to calm the anxiety of a Vikings fan base that is in search for signs of improvement from third-year quarterback Christian Ponder . The Vikings went three-and-out on their first three possessions, losing a fumble on the opening drive of the game and then punting to end the next two series. But after the defense created a turnover on San Francisco’s fourth possession of the game, Ponder drove the offense to paydirt in six plays, finding fullback Zach Line for a one-yard touchdown hookup. In the end, the first team offense scored two touchdowns and it was led by Ponder, who went 17 of 23 for 116 yards with two touchdowns, an interception that wasn’t his fault and that lost fumble on the first drive of the game. Again, this performance won’t inspire much confidence among fans, but I do think some good things happened and I also think it’s hard to accurately gauge the progress this group has made without Adrian Peterson (and Jerome Felton ) in the backfield on a regular basis.
