Officers in Peterhead wish to thank all members of the public who attended at Buchanhaven Community Centre to view recovered stolen property during Saturday 18 January 2014. Local Community Investigation Team officers engaged in the national anti-housebreaking initiative, Operation RAC, alongside Buchan Community Policing Team officers and Community Wardens facilitated the event where they displayed an array of stolen property including flat screen televisions, tools, jewellery and an assortment of other goods which were recovered recently in Peterhead. Approximately 100 members of the public attended to view the recovered property. Many took the opportunity to benefit from Crime Prevention advice whilst at the Centre. Sergeant Gilbert Buchan of the Community Investigation Team at Peterhead said: I just wish to re-iterate my thanks to all persons who attended the showing of property on Saturday at Buchanhaven Community Centre. This resulted in the identification of several items of stolen property providing us with new lines of enquiry which will be followed up. I also wish to thank the Buchanhaven Heritage Society for making the venue available to the public and Police. Buchan Community Policing Sergeant Simon Reid said: We are committed to keeping people safe. We know the significant impact and upset crimes such as break-ins and thefts can have on individuals and that this is an issue which causes concern locally. Amongst the items identified included jewellery belonging to the daughter of a resident who had recently died and was of great sentimental value. These crimes are rigorously investigated and ongoing work through Operation RAC demonstrates this. Sergeant Reid added, The support of the local community is also vital and we again ask the public to continue working together with us to keep the Buchan area safe by reporting suspicious activity on 101 or by 999 if its ongoing. Anyone who was unable to attend the viewing or wishes Crime Prevention Advice can make arrangements in this regard via Peterhead Police Office, or by calling 101.
