Often when we think of holiday gifts and giving, we think of material things that cost money. But for those of us who dont have much income, we can broaden the definition. Here are a few low-/no-cost suggestions for holiday gifts. I know that not all of these suggestions are accessible to everyone but hopefully everyone can find something in this list they can do. 1. Create something personal like a poem, song, piece of art/craft, or video. 2. Offer something you can do for free like a massage, energy work/ tarot card reading, singing to them, taking them on a hike, etc. 3. Regift something that you think they would really appreciate, like a piece of jewelry or a book thats right up their alley. I know in some cultures this is considered taboo but its kind of classist expectation If its mindful then it can still be sincere and not just getting rid of stuff. 4. Take them to a place you think would mean a lot to them, or share a tradition of yours that shows how much you honor them and care about them. The place/tradition can be free, e.g. showing them a statue of their favorite historical figure they didnt know about. 5. Ask them something they specifically want help with, and figure out what you can do. It could be anything from giving a second opinion on a story/recipe/etc. to babysitting/pet-sitting to organizing clutter to giving business advice. 6. Tutor them in the basics of a skill set you have that they have always wanted to learn, expecting nothing in return. You could meet up/Skype with them a few times to get them started and then suggest resources to keep them going. I know many of these fall within the range of just being friends/caring in general, but you can make a point to do something extra special for the holiday. If you want to give them something physical, you can make cards or tokens that say good for one X. Thank you Nai Damato
