Oh dear, soooo much wrong with this tightly tensioned flying fox - TopicsExpress

Oh dear, soooo much wrong with this tightly tensioned flying fox that is left up for months at a time. Never de-tensioned and the rope is of course left out in the sun, salt spray and sand 200 metres from an active surf beach. The seat belt webbing used to sling the tree is also cutting into the bark and choking the tree. Only one tree acting as an anchor. Sure the SRTE No Worries will slip at 600kgs or is supposed to if it werent having to do so in a salt rich environment. The carabiners are also in a state with that wide webbing of having to be de-rated. Mind you they biners are still heller strong even so. Biners are SS too by the way which is a plus on the ledger. Once again, this pic and post is not here for a name and shame competition but rather as a learning tool. Do not accept having to work with this sort of gear. Walk away, smile and wave and decline to use it. Know the history of gear that you are being asked to use. If a lax attitude is being shown overall then you can bet your boots that a general lax attitude will be evident in all the gear. If asked to use a particular high ropes course then supplying ones own gear might be the only option. Cant hold true though for the fixed assets.
