We received information from the public and the Bell County Sheriffs Department of a possible scam in the Bell County area today. According to Bell County Detective Mike Cooper, two months ago an elderly couple from the Little Clear Creek community was sent what they believed to be a legitimate insurance form they need to fill out and return to the insurance company. The husband filled out the form and mailed it back. This afternoon, a man described as having curly brown hair, clean shaven, and driving a 4 door beige/cream colored car showed up at their home to discuss the insurance. The husband invited the would be insurance salesman into the house and after some discussion the husband told the salesman that he already had insurance papers in a safe place in the home. After the man followed him to his bedroom, the husband took a better look at the paperwork and realized it was not legitimate, tore it up and threw it in a trash can. While this was happening the salesman was seen by the wife taking a bottle full of her medication. The wife said she was afraid to say anything in case the man was armed. It was at that point the man left briefly only return to retrieve the torn up papers. He was last seen on Hunter Hollow Road off of Little Clear Creek Rd. and Hwy 190. If you have any information leading to the identity or arrest of this man, please contact Detective Cooper through the Sheriffs Department at 337-3102 or Bell County Dispatch at 337-6174
