Oh dears, what a sweet day delivering weddings. A day where I am thankful to be able to feed people art. A day where I remember that a cake is a gift that a family offers to those they love, a gift that is sweet and is always shared. I had such a beautiful moment with a mother of a groom today- we were side-by-side as I was working on the cake and she was working on the flowers. We shared a short, quiet conversation about our shared love of dahlias, of cake, of red wine, of hard work and the beautiful fall day. I felt blessed to share such an intimate moment with her at a pivotal moment of her familys life; I feel lucky that we get to have these glimpses into peoples lives at joyful times and make our contribution to it. I also feel extremely grateful to and in awe of the most amazing, beautiful, talented, big-hearted family of Cake Ladies and Gentleman that I am lucky enough to be a part of. Today was perhaps the busiest day in the 8 year history of Short Street Cakes, and the skill, good humor, and cooperation of these fine humans over the past three days has been a delight to behold.
