Oh, for crying out loud, write the man a ticket! From mysouthernaz .... A Safford Police Officer was called to the Wal-Mart parking lot at around 2:00pm, Friday afternoon, to a report of a man who was holding a Gila Monster. When the Officer arrived, he observed a male subject standing at the trunk of his car holding the Gila Monster. He was showing it to people as they walked by his vehicle. The Officer walked up to the man and asked him if he knew that the Gila Monster was poisonous. The man, identified as James Harvey, said he did. The Officer then told the man that Gila Monsters were a protected species in Arizona and the man said he did not know that. The Officer contacted a local Arizona Game and Fish Ranger. The Ranger came to the Wal-Mart parking lot and took possession of the Gila Monster. Mr. Harvey was not cited.
